Message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have thoroughly enjoyed our Spring Term together at Rushton. This week we loved our Easter bonnet parade around the village, waving at so many of our parents and families as we passed! Thank you for your creative hands to make such a wonderful array of spring-themed bonnets! We had a lovely service together at the church where we remembered the meaning of Easter and shared songs and poems.

Yesterday we celebrated our Champions of the Term assembly and sang happy birthday to the (many!) children who are celebrating a birthday over the Easter break! We also drew the PCA Easter Bunny competition winner, and lucky Liam won the teddy – called Bo!

Badgers class have taken home their sunflower plants – please remember to water and look after your plant over the break and return them to school next term, where we will find out whose plant has grown the tallest!

Please can I remind all of our community again to be very careful when driving and parking around the village, particularly near school. We are working with the parish council to support proposed traffic calming measures; however, please be extra vigilant when driving near school and take extra time to check for hazards. Please also keep our neighbours' access to property clear.

Yesterday, North Northamptonshire Council sent new guidance to schools to support Youth Vaping. I have attached the links from the document to support families and young people to this week’s newsletter. May I remind families that schools are smoke and vape-free zones.

We are delighted to share that we have joined PeerScroller, an app and website for youngsters to access safe, researched information about issues relevant to them. The app mimics social media, but is researched and performed by actors. Unlike social media apps, every video has been made and fact-checked in-house, and there’s no way for users to interact with one another or share their own content. It is primarily aimed at Key Stage 2 (Year 3) onwards. There is advice and clarification on a range of topics, presented in short-burst videos. I have attached a letter for parents to access the app and visit key topics you wish to at home. Please check the content that you wish to share with your child first to ensure it is appropriate for their stage of development and understanding. Key Stage 3 advice is for Year 7 onwards, but some topics may still be relevant and suitable for your child’s individual needs in Years 5 and 6. The app is not available to children and only for parents in primary school. Please do not share our code outside of our school due to our licencing agreement. Thank you.

After the Easter break, Squirrels will no longer attend swimming lessons at Montsaye; therefore, their PE days will return to Monday and Thursday. All children should wear their usual school uniform on non-PE days, and only approved school PE kit on their PE days.

There are a number of upcoming dates that have been added to our website and looking ahead section, please familiarise yourself with the relevant summer term events, thank you.
