In readiness for this, and to secure children’s systematic synthetic phonics and early reading skills, we have daily phonics lessons and 1:1 catch up sessions as required. We model segmenting and blending throughout the day in all areas of the curriculum. Children take part in daily reading sessions. We encourage children to read at home and practise segmenting and blending, including looking for diagraphs (e.g. sh, ch, ai), trigraphs (e.g. igh, ear) and split digraphs (e.g. u-e in use, a-e in make) within words. In readiness for this, and to secure children’s knowledge and recall of the times tables up to 12x12, we use a range of techniques to embed knowledge of the times tables. These include regular practising, the use of songs, counting sticks and regular sessions on Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS). We would encourage all children to use TTRS daily at home to help develop their confidence. Just 10 minutes a day can make a vast impact on children’s knowledge. The children are familiar with this program and will be keen to share their progress with you. you can find more information here Multiplication tables check: information for parents - GOV.UK
