Dear Parents and Carers,

I can’t believe we’ve already reached the end of our penultimate term of the year. Thank you for your support and warm welcome over the last year, I am thoroughly enjoying working here at Rushton.

We’ve had a super week in school with lots of activities happening – on Monday several of our Key Stage Two children attended the Swimming Gala, and Rushton came 3rd overall! We had many medal winners in our team, and a special mention goes to those children who swam for multiple year groups or in multiple races. Well done to everyone who took part, you were fantastic!

On Wednesday our Year 6 children went to Rothwell to attend a multi-school sports morning – it is a fantastic social event where children can meet peers from other local schools that they may transition to secondary school with. Our children were fantastic representatives of our school and had a brilliant morning together.

On Thursday we had two paramedics and a first-response ambulance car visit the school. The children listened to the paramedics explain about their job and different careers within the ambulance and emergency services. They got to sit inside the ambulance car and look at some of the equipment they carry. It was a really informative morning, thank you to the paramedics who visited us.

And then today our Hedgehogs made crispy chocolate cakes to take home with them, and our Year 5/6 children enjoyed an African Drumming Workshop which finished with them displaying their new skills to the rest of the school.

We also had a huge delivery of books this week that have been bought for the school through your fantastic fundraising efforts. Thank you to Jodi from Usborne for reaching out to us, as well as Homefield Grange who gave us an additional donation. We’ve got four large boxes of books to share between our classes, as well as a new book for our incoming Reception children to take home, all about starting school. Thank you to everyone that supported us to raise such a significant amount. You will see an attached flyer from National Book Tokens, who will donate £1,000 to a winning school to build their library – we’d really appreciate any nominations for Rushton!

Earlier this week I shared a form via email regarding our school vision and values. If you wish to participate, please respond by Friday 5th June. Your views will be taken into consideration as we refresh our school vision ready for the autumn term. The link to this form is here. Additionally, I would appreciate your time to share your views in our parent survey – this covers all aspects of school life and helps us to ensure we’re meeting the needs of all our learners and forms a part of our improvement journey. If you wish to share your views, please complete this form.

Next week is the last half-term break of the year. We re-open on Monday 1st June. We have another action-packed term ahead, including the Multiplication Tables Check for Year 4 from Monday 1st June (please keep practising over the break to keep times table recall fresh in your mind!), the Key Stage 2 Triathlon on Tuesday 2nd June, class photos on Friday 5th June (more information will be sent after the break), Year 5/6 Football (selected pupils) on Monday 8th June, and the Phonics Screening Check for Year 1 and selected children from Year 2 from Monday 8th June!

Have a wonderful half-term break, enjoy the sunshine together! We look forward to welcoming you back on 1st June.

Miss Hannant
