Inside Rushton - 05.09.2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

👋Welcome back to school, it’s been lovely to see everyone this week and to hear all about the children’s summer holidays! They’ve settled back into school well and have been polite, kind and hard-working. I’m sure they will sleep well this weekend! We have lots of updates to share, please read this first newsletter fully to ensure you are up to date.

🪀We’ve been enjoying new equipment at playtime and lunch times – including building with milk crates, planks and foam bricks, a mud kitchen, lots of dressing up and some musical instruments! We’re always grateful for any donations, particularly any items we can use indoors during wet breaks (such as jigsaws, colouring books, board games, card games), any hardy toys such as dolls, dinosaurs and cars, and donations of balls or sports equipment. If you’re having a clear out before Christmas we’d be grateful for your unwanted items.

🧪🏀We have had two taster sessions for external after school clubs this week – a mini basketball session with Hot Shots and a science assembly with Atomic Tom. Please sign up for either club with their agencies directly - details are below.

✅Today, the children reflected on what makes a good school councillor, and we discussed the responsibilities of the role and the characteristics of an effective leader. Next week, children that would like to a member of the school council will nominate themselves and pitch to their class. Classes will then vote on their chosen representative. If your child would like to nominate themselves as school council rep, please help them consider how they can showcase their strengths – skills we discussed in assembly included good listening and communication, reliable, honest, considerate, helpful, committed. Council representatives will hold the post for the full academic year and we are keen to gather pupil voice to continue to improve our school.

👖We have a preloved uniform hub available in the front garden of the school. A range of uniform items are stored inside the greenhouse, boxed by approximate age. The garden can be freely accessed at all times. We have plenty more uniform inside the airlock too, so if we don’t have what you’re looking for outside, please ring the bell to be let in to view. This will be regularly checked and replenished, we will happily accept donations too.

🌿 Our gardening club is due to restart this term, and Mrs Barney is requesting donations of shrubs, flowers and seeds for the garden. Please leave any donations in the front garden. If anyone has a contact at a garden centre who may be able to provide some donations or a discount, please get in touch with the school office. Thank you!

🎭 Looking ahead towards the end of the Autumn term, we are looking forward to taking our pupils to see the Peter Pan pantomime on December 16th at the Derngate Theatre. Our PCA are generously subsidising the cost of transport for the trip and we’d love all of our pupils to attend. Please make a payment on the MCAS app by Friday 3rd October so we can finalise our transport and ticket numbers. Thank you.

👍Please can all parents log in to the MCAS app and review their child’s permissions. ‘School Magazine’ includes social media. All pupils will require local visits permission to join their classes on walks to the park, church and around the village.

🏥Please can any outstanding medications be returned to the school office by an adult, a new medication form will need to be completed.

🌠Finally, I'd like to extend my thanks and well-wishes to Erin Faulkner. Erin embodies our Rushton values and is the face of our school - she goes above and beyond to help others- always with a smile on her face- and has such a calm, caring and positive demeanour. We know she will be an incredible teacher and we wish her all the luck in her new venture.
