Inside Rushton - 03.10.25

What a lovely week we've had practising for our Harvest Festival, culminating in a wonderful service led by Mrs Frogley today! Thank you for your generous donations to the local foodbank. Our children enjoyed singing along to a harvest themed version of Shotgun by George Ezra, Big Red Combine Harvester and of course- the primary school classic- Harvest Samba. Year 6 also shared a thoughtful presentation about how far our ingredients travel - so the pizza ordered from a takeaway only 2 miles away actually had travelled 16,520 miles!

This afternoon Key Stage 2 children had an insightful assembly about the importance of reading and the impact of being a functional reader in adulthood, presented by Brooke from Gartree Prison Library. Brooke shared examples of different times that reading is essential in day to day life, and considered what a challenging skill it is to learn to read. Our school council have recently suggested how we can raise the profile and enjoyment of reading, and Miss Appleyard is working with them to put their plans into action - so watch this space!

Earlier this week children from Year 1 took part in a multi-skills event at Loatlands - they championed our school and upheld our values and were a real credit to us - please see the section below shared by Mrs Barney for more information. Well done Year 1!

Next week sees our Key Stage 2 cross country event on Monday - good luck to those attending! A reminder that children's flu vaccinations will take place on Monday if your child has been registered. Those going to the cross country event will have their vaccination before leaving.

A final reminder to all of our families that have yet to book their space for the Peter Pan pantomime - this is a really exciting opportunity for our children to experience the thrill of live performance in a real theatre. Bookings close on Friday, please ensure you have paid for your space by Friday 10th October- it is our aim to take the whole school to the performance. Please see separate letter for further details.
