Inside Rushton - 01.05.26

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week Squirrels enjoyed a visit to the pocket park to study seasonal changes, and to inspire their artwork based on plants. Kestrels have been creating large-scale artwork using PE equipment on the field. Year 1 & 3 attended a Tri-Golf event at Rothwell on Tuesday, and Badgers have been showing us their creative skills when making relief maps!

Please can we ask that all pupils come to school with a sun hat, sun cream and water bottle every day. Sunglasses are allowed if you child would like to wear them. A light rain jacket it also advised for the unpredictable weather!

Thank you for your ongoing support with your children’s learning and attendance. We are currently sitting slightly above national average for attendance, year to date, which is a real celebration and makes such a difference to our children’s learning and wellbeing. As we head into the summer months, please can I remind you to check our school website for the term dates for the summer term and next academic year before booking holidays. Following government guidance, any holidays that mean your child will miss 10 sessions (5 full days) must be referred to the local authority for a fixed penalty notice.

We have noticed a recent decline in children wearing the correct uniform. As we head into summer we know some children may require new clothing and shoes suitable for the warmer weather – we are happy to help if you need any items, we have plenty of pre-loved unform available free of charge. Children should only wear PE kit on their PE days. If they attend a sports club before or after school they should bring a change of clothes, so they are still wearing uniform throughout the school day. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Please can you ensure any grapes (or similar choking hazards) brought in to school are sliced in half lengthways. Sweets are not allowed in lunch boxes as part of our ‘healthy schools’ initiative.

Next week our '3 for 2' book fair will be open after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We have placed a large order with Usborne books this week and look forward to topping up our libraries with Scholastic books in a few weeks – please do support our fundraising efforts by visiting. Thank you for your incredible support this year in building our school libraries, we’ve been very fortunate to be able to buy so many new titles for our classes.

We’re always grateful for any donations of balls for the playground, particularly soft balls. Please drop any you may have at the school office. Thank you.

Finally, all three houses have filled their reward jars and have earned their rewards! Next Friday we are offering a ‘free snack Friday’ – children can bring to school any snack they wish (of a reasonable portion size) including fruit and veg, crackers, cheese, a small packet of sweets, crisps or biscuits, cereal bars, breadsticks, yogurt tubes or similar...but please ensure they are nut-free. They’ve worked hard in lessons, and been showing our school values of courage, aspiration and responsibility as they move around school and take part in activities. Well done everyone!
